”Suddenly uphill as well as downhill rides become a flow experience and extended tours take a lot less time”, says Austrian Bergwelten (Mountain Worlds) magazine in their e-mountain bike test report and describes a new kind of ride experience made possible by motor-supported bikes. While a tour would take less time, now one could also plan for longer tours altogether.
Despite the motor support it’s still possible to exert oneself just like with a normal bike, the editors said. But now you can decide how you work yourself out. Yet, Bergwelten recommends taking a back-up battery on longer mountain tours - or to factor in time for charging the battery when stopping at a mountain cabin.
The STEVENS E-Whaka+ left a decent impression within a comprehensive test field and was awarded the ”price tip” by the editors: ”We were most impressed by the E-Whaka+’s price-value performance. It’s easy on the wallet and despite its budget-sensitive specs it’s totally trail capable.”
The bike excelled with a very well set-up chassis, four-link rear triangle, powerful Shimano brakes and sturdy Shimano SLX/XT components for pleasant shifting performance. A perfect match was the compact Shimano Steps E8000 motor which is nicely integrated into the down tube.
Thanks to its compact design the e-fully was good for quick handling: ”Off-road the Stevens is fun to ride due to its well-balanced geometry – in tight, difficult switchbacks it performs just as superb as when going straight ahead at full speed.”
Conclusion: The STEVENS E-Whaka+ is a flawless all-mountain bike. Nimble in the trails, swift and a joy to ride in any situation.
