”Honest Bike With Ants In Its Pants”

Straight-forward, direct, eager: The new STEVENS Comet Disc in its first test introduces itself to the RoadBiKE editors as a swift and versatile high-end sportster with one of the lightest ever disc-specific framesets.

The new Comet Disc, despite the modern hydraulic disc brakes, was an outright classic, no-frills and honest road bike, says RoadBIKE magazine in its 11.2017 edition. The test report continues: it was a nimble ride with direct and quick steering but also directionally stable especially at high speed – in short: ”a straight-forward, no-frills sportster.” It could be used ”straight away for any race” yet it offered enough comfort – especially due to the ”vertically very compliant” rear triangle – and directional stability for long distances.

The newly designed frameset of the Comet Disc is more or less the evolution of the also totally revamped for 2018 STEVENS Comet, and for RoadBIKE weighing in at 1386 grams (3lbs 1oz) ”also one of the lightest disc framesets” the editors ever tested.
The STEVENS Comet Disc, like all high-quality road bikes from STEVENS, is exclusively available via the Custom Configurator. This way every road bike rider can have their dream bike assembled to their wishes and needs in terms of finishing kit measurements and gears.

For its very first test overall, the Comet disc really dressed up. In accordance with the high-end approach of the frameset it showed up at the editorial office in with everything ”that is good and expensive” – the editors were ”totally won over” by these specs. First and foremost by the Shimano Dura Ace drivetrain with its impressively precise and smooth shifting.

The ”light and sufficiently stiff” Mavic Ksyrium Pro Carbon SL made the Comet Disc look ”untamed and always eager for speed.” Matching this kind of ride character the wheels were shod in 25 mm wide Continental Grandprix 4000s II clinchers (the frame can fit up to 28mm). The bike also was praised for specs like the 160 mm diameter discs providing best braking performance (even though 140mm discs might have saved another few grams).

All in all, the bike costs 6,310 Euros. Quite a lot of money and a little unusual for a ”price-value brand” like STEVENS, the editors said. Yet, comparable disc road bikes ”often cost a lot more” – so it’s nice to be called a ”price-value brand”.

Conclusion: ”The Comet Disc is a straight-forward sportster: fast, direct, eager. The light disc frameset is well-designed, the high-quality specs are just a dream.”

The STEVENS Comet Disc, in Ink Black is available in sizes 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60 cm in the STEVENS Configurator with several spec options from approx. 3,200 Euros up. There’s a choice of eight component groups with custom gears, six wheelsets and many further options like handlebar width, stem and crank length as well as cable housing colour. The frameset alone is available, too.
