The "Little Black".

Under its elegant matt black appearance numerous qualities are hidden that will convince the rider from the very first pedal stroke. One of these qualities is the light weight thanks to an Aluminium frame, STEVENS' proprietary S-Lite alloy fork and despite the 12-speed gear box with Magnesium housing and full street kit (fenders, lights) - resulting in high agility. The drive belt will do its work over many thousand kilometers almost maintenance-free. And the well-balanced seating position is just right no matter if for relaxed cruising through the city or a fast-paced weekend outing.

Technology

Pinion C1.12-Getriebeschaltung

Wie sein großer Bruder, das schon legendäre P1.18, nimmt das neue 12-Gang-Getriebe aus Schwaben den Platz ein, den heutzutage die allgegenwärtigen E-Motoren für sich gepachtet haben wollen. Dazu liefert es starke Gründe, auch weiterhin zu 100% auf Muskelkraft zu setzen: 600% Übersetzungs-Spanne. Zwölf Gänge in sinnvoller Abstufung. Und dank Magnesiumgehäuse stolze 600 g leichter als das Pinion-Topmodell.

QR15-Steckachse vorn

Die „15“ steht für den Achsdurchmesser, das „QR“ für „Quick Release“, also Schnellspanner – und zusammen für die funktionellste Methode, das Vorderrad in der (Feder-)Gabel zu verankern. Die Vorteile sind bestechend: hohe Steifigkeit, präzise Bremsscheiben-Positionierung und kinderleichte Bedienung. Also stattet STEVENS fast alle Mountainbikes und sogar die hochwertigsten Trekking-, Crossbikes und Pedelecs damit aus. Vor allem bei den 29“-MTBs wird sogar noch die Einbaubreite erhöht – von 100 auf 110 mm, das ist noch steifer.

Even when you can't see the strut that connects the pannier rack to the fender - it is there. The strut runs below the fender and provides - in connection with the rack mounted to the fender - more stability and lateral stiffness.

Belt Drive

A belt drive, as the name suggests, uses a drive belt instead of a chain to transfer power from the cranks to the rear wheel. Since the belt cannot be split like a chain the special STEVENS frame utilizes a splittable seat stay, but the advantages are convincing: lower weight, silent operation, almost endless longevity without any maintenance.

Reifenfreiheit bis 47mm

Wer häufiger auf Strecken mit weniger glattem Untergrund unterwegs ist, kann bis zu 47 mm breite Reifen montieren – und dann von mehr Fahrkomfort und Pannenschutz profitieren, die deren größeres Luftvolumen mit sich bringt, weil nunmehr mit geringerem Reifenluftdruck gefahren werden kann. Die Rahmen und Gabeln dieser Bikes sind jedenfalls schon darauf vorbereitet.

So sieht eine moderne Starrgabel heute aus: Die geraden Gabelscheiden und die Gabelkrone sind aus einem Stück geformt – das spart Schweißnähte und garantiert höchste Steifigkeit und Lenkpräzision. Vollwertige Schutzbleche und ein Lowrider-Gepäckträger lassen sich ebenso montieren wie ein eleganter Halter für den Frontscheinwerfer. Die Version mit QR15-Steckachse kann mit einem optionalen Pitlock-System besonders diebstahlsicher gemacht werden. Und dennoch wird die STEVENS S-Lite Aluminium-Gabel auf der Waage ihrem Namen vollauf gerecht.

Tapered Seat Tube

The seat tube tapers from top to bottom. At the top it fits a slim 27.2mm seatpost that offers some flex and therefore increases comfort especially when riding over rough ground. At the bottom the large diameter nicley flows into the bottom bracket shell and downtube to provide great stiffness and drivetrain efficiency.

Hydroforming

Using water or oil pressure aluminium tubes are transformed from their original round shape into their ideal shape determined by STEVENS engineers to perfectly withstand any load without any weight penalty. Riders of allround bikes and pedelecs will benefit from a better stability caused by hydroforming even when they are touring with heavy luggage.

Tapered Steerer / Tapered Headtube

Fork shaft (or steerer tube) and head tube are tapered, meaning their diameter increases from top to bottom resulting in a conical shape. The diameter needs to be bigger at the bottom since this is where higher stress is applied - especially when the bike has a higher total weight due to luggage or an e-drive and battery. Also tapered steerers feature a smoother force transfer (like forces caused by hard braking) to the downtube than forks with a continuous 1 1/8" diameter.

Triple Butted, Double Butted

Meaning a frame tube has three or two different wall thicknesses along its length. Triple butted (TB) is the usual technology with STEVENS high-quality frames.
Tubes with different wall thicknesses are optimally adjusted to certain ways of manufacturing or to withstand specific loads. Where the highest loads occur or where tubes are welded, walls are the thickest. Butted tubes allow frame weight to be lower by several hundred grams.

Adjustable Dropouts

High quality STEVENS frames equipped with a gear hub or Pinion 18-gear box come with adjustable dropouts. These make correct tensioning of the chain or drive belt very easy. Adjustment via headless set screw and Allen key allows very precise alignement. Two fastening bolts on each side provide tight grip. On bikes with derailleur shifting the chain is tensioned by the derailleur.

Smooth Welded

Additional step in welding. The first, rippled weld, typical for aluminium, is covered with a second smoother weld. This not only improves looks but also lowers the risk of notches in this spot, which makes the frames more durable.

Hydraulic Disc Brakes (Trekking)

There is no more reliable brake system than hydraulic disc brakes - that is why we strongly advice everyone, who is riding their cross, trekking- or city bike 12 months a year to choose one of our models with the „DISC“ suffix. Brake power is easy to modulate and does not fade a bit in the wet. Also the brakes are almost maintenance-free. And your local STEVENS dealer will gladly explain to you what you need to take care of when removing and re-installing a wheel
