Tightly calculated endurance bike

"The motto is: as much road bike as possible for the money" - describes rennrad-news.de the STEVENS Izoard. The editors tested the allrounder and learned to appreciate the Izoard as a "straightforward road bike without real weak points"

The Izoard Pro is made for athletes for whom value for money is more important than maximum individuality. Accordingly, it is not included in the extensive STEVENS custom program and available in the Ultegra version in Foggy Grey. Exactly this version was tested by rennrad-news.de at the beginning of spring.

Even before the first pedal stroke, the testers praised the large selection of frame sizes and the Hanseatic understatement, which merged carbon frame and Shimano Ultegra components in an elegant color. "The voluminous down tube has a comb tail profile like many road bikes have, which claim an aero-optimization for themselves (...). The top tube fits broadly against the head tube and tapers towards the seat tube - a possible indication of the high torsional stiffness of the frame set", the editors concluded and praised the "proper weight allowance of 115 kilograms at a low weight of 7.55 kilos (without pedals) of the bicycle itself.

In addition to the Shimano Ultegra groupset, the DT Swiss wheels, the Continental Grand Prix 4000 S II tires and the "sporty mountain gear ratio" with semi-compact crank that matches the model name – Col d'Izoard in the French Alps is a frequent stage destination of the Tour de France – were also well received in the test.

Thumbs up also for the company’s own Oxygen brand components: "The aluminum handlebar is comparatively round (...). A slight bend back on the upper bar provides a comfortable hand rest," reads the test report.

The carbon seat post also contributes to riding comfort, even if it cannot completely exploit its full damping potential due to the low pull-out height. On the other hand, testers liked the company’s own saddle brand that flexes visibly and "its shape with the small relief channel in the middle".

The processing looks very clean, the function was impeccable during the six-week test period.

Sporty position, safe riding
The long frame puts the rider in a stretched, rather sporty riding position. Thanks to its 100-millimeter stem, short wheelbase and comparatively large bottom bracket lowering, the Izoard Pro is direct and agile: "Made for fast descents," write the editors, who tested the bike on their standard test course.

There, the road bike turned out to be a "sovereign cycling machine", which the test rider "in no situation could elicit a hint of insecurity". The Izoard is light-footed, literally pushing forward. "On the descent, the Izoard nails every turn. A lot of weight on the front wheel and a high steering precision convey safety even at high speeds", the editors praise and also certify a good pressure point for the brakes.

Accordingly, the testers categorized the STEVENS Izoard as "a competitive road bike for the rational riders". A real bargain in the Ultegra category with carbon frame, whose tight calculation you can’t tell by looking at the specs and the processing. On the contrary.

Conclusion: "Weight and handling can make ambitious road cyclists happy (...). A straightforward road bike without real weak points in the best sense, which is also suitable for heavy riders".
