Technologie

Flatmount Disc Brakes

What is still an issue of debate among pros, riders of a STEVENS Comet, Ventoux or Izoard Pro DISC and all cyclocross disc bikes can already benefit from: Hydraulic disc brakes offering perfect modulation with minimal use of hand force also - or especially - in the wet due to their always constant braking power. This is beneficial in traffic just as it is on a fast and furious descent from a pass in the Dolomites. Or on a cyclocross race track where it's all about staying fast as long as possible. By using the Flatmount standard in all STEVENS disc road bikes and cyclocross bikes (except for the Tabor) we can position the callipers closer to the frame and more elegantly than before. This saves weight without sacrificing performance and it looks so much better.

It is especially important for disc brakes that ultra-lightweight road bikes are prepared to accommodate them in order to make the most of their advantages. So the forks and rear triangles of your disc road bikes are spec'd with extra-safe 12 mm thru-axles.

High Modulus Carbon Fibers

Only the very best materials are used for the highest quality STEVENS carbon frames - so called high modulus carbon fibres. They offer a perfect combination of maximum toughness and targeted elasticity. This way they provide maximum lateral stiffness for best forward drive and a high amount of comfort. Result: incredibly light and enormously stiff frames.

Tapered Seat Tube

The seat tube tapers from top to bottom. At the top it fits a slim 27.2mm seatpost that offers some flex and therefore increases comfort especially when riding over rough ground. At the bottom the large diameter nicley flows into the bottom bracket shell and downtube to provide great stiffness and drivetrain efficiency.

Di2-ready

Electronic shifting is already well established in road bikes as well as in mountain bikes next to classic mechanical systems. Impressively fast and reliable gear changes and minimum maintenance pay their dividends not only at the Tour de France, in cyclocross or on the Cross-Country World Cup circuit. That's why STEVENS road bike and MTB frames are "Di2"-ready, meaning they are prepared for an elegant integration of batteries and electric cables (instead of usual wire cables). Even for the classy Alfine gear hub Shimano offers an electronic version.

Tapered Steerer / Tapered Headtube

Fork shaft (or steerer tube) and head tube are tapered, meaning their diameter increases from top to bottom resulting in a conical shape. The diameter needs to be bigger at the bottom since this is where higher stress is applied. Riders will benefit from a noticeable higher steering precision almost without weight penalty. Also tapered steerers feature a smoother force transfer (like forces caused by hard braking) to the downtube than forks with a continuous 1 1/8" diameter.

Up To 28 mm Tire Clearance

Even pro riders in the Tour de France already know that wider tires sometimes roll faster. And aren't it not those small back-roads with their sometimes questionable surfaces that are the most fun to ride? Those who often ride on roads with less than perfect pavement can prepare their road bike with up to 28 mm wide tires - and benefit from better comfort.

Comfort Carbon Seatpost

Who wants to be fast does not need to suffer – especially not when their STEVENS Carbon road bike is equipped with a Scorpo Carbon SL Comfort Seatpost which filters annoying road buzz. Its diameter of 27.2mm only and dedicated fibre orientation enable better flex without adding weight or loosing stability. By the way: the post can also be retrofitted.

Full Carbon Fork

The most intelligent way of lightweight design for STEVENS engineers is to use carbon forks with 100% carbon fibers that run all way though from dropout to steerer tube in one single piece. This results in an amazing riding experience on and off-road: Lightweight, knife-sharp steering precision effortless climbing and maximum lateral stiffness even when combined with disc brakes.

Versatile cable routing

We keep the cable routing on our bikes as versatile as possible so you can ride your bike like you want to. There are wide and therefore easy to reach cable ports in the frame to insert shift or brake sleeves, Di2 cables or even no sleeves at all - there are the appropriate cover plugs for all of this.
