The UCI world championships in Copenhagen happen right now. STEVENS-pilot Marianne Vos will start in two disciplines. Before she went to Kopenhagen, she gave us this interview.
The Road World Championships are going to begin September, 19th. You will start in 2 disciplines. After so many starts (and victories): Are you still exited?
Of course I’m still exited, cause World Championships are special. The whole year you are busy with the preparations for this moment and when you win the rainbow jersey it gives you an amazing feeling knowing that you are the best rider in the world.
Last year, you became second in the individual road race. What kind of race do you expect this year?
It can be a race with lots of surprises. I already know who I should watch this Saturday. Judith Arndt is very good. I can’t figure Ina-Yoko Teutenberg out. Emma Johansson is the whole season already strong and also Giorgia Bronzini is really good.
This year, you had spend more time on the podium than on the street. Are you well prepared for Kopenhagen?
This season my form is better than last years. I have trained more and more specific. There were fortunately less races and my recovery has improved, through which I could quickly start with my trainings again. And all those training years behind me, give me a better foundation.
Concerning the tactics: Will you get support from all the dutch riders? Will you have the "chief part"?
Last week we had a great training camp with the Dutch selection at Papendal. The atmosphere in the group is good and I'm sure that no one goes to the World Championships with a hidden agenda.
You visited the STEVENS-booth on the EUROBIKE. You gave autographs, interviews and you have seen this year´s news. What are your impressions from the EUROBIKE?
The atmosphere is great.
What will happen after Kopenhagen? Will you have a break? Or will you switch into the cyclocross-season directly? And if yes: When do we see you on the cyclocrss-machine?
After Copenhagen I go to Bhutan to visite the Bhutan and partners sports programme and I will attend the Royal Wedding celebrations of the king of Bhutan. After this I hope to go on holiday. In November/December I will start my cyclocross-season.
As you will start in London in time trial and in the street race, you decided to pass on the track races. Is this a final decision or will we see you back on track after London 2012?
This is only for next season. The road races and the track races for the Olympic Games were to difficult to combine. But next year I will still train on the track and after the Olympic Games you will probably see me back on track.
