Sweeck & Worst secure World Cup podiums

At the 2nd round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Fayetteville, USA, STEVENS riders Laurens Sweeck (Crelan-Fristads) and Annemarie Worst (777) achieved podium finishes. STEVENS riders were also fast on European soil.

Following his second place in the first UCI World Cup race a week ago in Waterloo, USA, Laurens Sweeck was able to confirm his good form and once again take second place in the Men’s Elite race in Fayetteville, the second of 14 World Cup races.

The race was to develop into a three-way battle between Eli Iserbyt, Laurens Sweeck and Michael Vanthourenhout in the closing moments. At first it seemed that Laurens would have the upper hand and take the first World Cup victory of his career. However, Eli Iserbyt threw a spanner in the works as he was able to slip past from the slipstream in the final metres to take his second World Cup win of the season. Laurens finished in second place again, the same time as Eli, after finishing second in Waterloo. Laurens' Crelan-Fristads teammate Joran Wyseure also finished in the top 10.

In the Women Elite race, Annamarie Worst took her first World Cup podium of the season. The Dutchwoman was part of the leading group from the beginning together with her team mate Inge van der Heijden and Annemarie was also able to keep up the pace on the final lap. Together with her compatriots Fem van Empel and the reigning European champion Lucinda Brand, Annemarie went into the final straight. But as in the Men's Elite class, the race was to be won from the slipstream and Fem passed Lucinda and Annemarie to secure the win by one second over Lucinda. Annemarie completed the podium in third place just one second behind Lucinda. Annemarie's 777 teammate Inge van der Heijden took 5th place and with Manon Bakker (Crelan-Fristads) in 9th place, another STEVENS rider finished in the top 10.

To get in the mood for the World Cup weekend, the OZ Cross in Fayetteville was already held on Friday. In the Women's Elite race, Inge van der Heijden (777) beat Frenchwoman Hélene Clauzel, Manon Bakker (Crelan-Fristads) finished third.

On European soil and at the Dutch GP Oisterwijk, Jens Adams (Chocovit Cycling Team) finished second on the STEVENS Super Prestige cyclocross bike behind winner Ryan Kamp. Emiel Verstrynge (Crelan-Fristads) in fourth place missed the podium by just two seconds.

In the Women's Elite race, two more STEVENS riders finished in the top 5 with Aniek van Alphen (777) in fourth and Marion Norbert Riberolle (Crelan-Fristads) in fifth.

A strong international race weekend for the STEVENS cyclocross riders was rounded off by Anna Kay's (777) first place at the Verge Cross Clonmel in Ireland and two third place finishes by Marthe Truyen (Crelan-Fristads) in the two Grand Prix Dohnany races in Dohnany, Slovakia.
