Best value for money – the Caleta 9.2 in the Reiserad magazine cycling test

In its latest issue 3-26, Radfahren magazine has put seven bikes suitable for travel through their paces. One of them is the STEVENS Caleta 9.2.

This high-tech bike from STEVENS’ trekking bike range stands out above all for its high-quality gear system, versatile frame and fork features, and its robust everyday specifications.

The Caleta 9.2 is based on a frame design that has been completely re-engineered from the ground up, combining the highest build quality with modern design and low weight. It forms the “sturdy, load-bearing backbone”, according to Radfahren magazine. A multitude of mounting points for bikepacking accessories on the top tube, down tube and seat tube, as well as the stiff aluminium fork, allow for easy conversion into a packhorse for extended cycling trips.

An important aspect for a reliable touring bike: the low-maintenance drivetrain, which riders can rely on at all times. In the case of the Caleta 9.2, we rely on the tried-and-tested combination of the premium Pinion P1.18 18-speed gearbox paired with the low-maintenance and durable Gates carbon belt drive.

The rest of the specification is also fully tailored to the needs of cycle travellers. Sturdy Shimano CUES disc brakes with 180 mm rotors ensure consistently reliable stopping power, even when the system’s maximum load of 140 kilograms is fully utilised. Reinforced DT Swiss 28-inch wheels with versatile Schwalbe Overland tyres provide a smooth ride and excellent traction on all surfaces. The SNAP IT 2.0-compatible luggage rack with QL3.1 mounting system carries up to 30 kilograms. And the powerful Supernova lighting system, consisting of an M99 DY Pro headlight and TL 3 Mini rear light, provides outstanding illumination even on the darkest paths.

In practice, with around 25 kilograms of luggage loaded onto it by the Radfahren editorial team, the rigid frame and fork construction proves its worth. “Easy to ride and handle”, with a balanced combination of smooth straight-line stability and agility, is the verdict of the Radfahren test editors. Even with panniers, the Caleta 9.2 demonstrates “excellent handling”.

The wide-range gear system, with an incredible 636 per cent total gear ratio, offers fast gears for flat terrain as well as plenty of reserves for challenging climbs.

So it’s no wonder that the Caleta 9.2 has been awarded top marks in the categories of equipment, everyday practicality and handling. It also receives the excellent overall score of 1.6 and the editorial recommendation “Best Value for Money”. See the review (in German language) here.
