With a head tube angle of 68.5° and a seat tube angle of 74.5° in frame size 18“ STEVENS Jura Carbon ES had a classic marathon geometry. It therefore was suitable for long rides on which riding comfort is key: “The comfort predominantly strikes on flat courses“, editors of Bike Freak Magazine noted.
They also liked the carbon frame’s internal cable routing and the suspension of 120 mm at front and back respectively that made descents seem very easy. Jura Carbon ES makes “for a confident ride at unprecedented pace, the suspension is balanced and smooth.
Small bumps are swallowed, hands, shoulders and back are spared some strains“, reads the test report with regard to the sensitive Float Performance Elite chassis made by Fox. The strong Shimano disc brakes brought the bike to a standstill any time in case the ride got too intense.
The lowest gear set of 26 x 40 teeth was fine for most riding situations. The gear set’s advantage in combination with the stiff frame: “The bike accelerates comfortably and swiftly.“ In longer climbs you needed enough power in your legs in order to keep the cranks rotating, however. This could be easily changed, though, by mounting another cassette, in case you were riding mainly in such terrain.
The testers’ conclusion: A fast marathon full-suspension bike with good specs and riding characteristics on which you can cruise comfortably for hours.
STEVENS Jura ES is available in sizes 18‘‘, 20‘‘ and 22‘‘ with 29-inch wheels. In size 16“ it is specced with 27.5-inch wheels to match the proportions. The marathon bike has all the prerequisites for mounting Shimano’s electronic groupset XT or XTR Di2 later, e.g. due to the battery housing near the bottom bracket.
