The e-bikes with the "Plus" suffix are allowed to weigh 180 kilograms, including rider and luggage. Enough for even the strongest types and most demanding tasks. The frames are designed for this load - and put to the acid test by the experts of the 'Zedler – Institut für Fahrradtechnik und -Sicherheit'.
29" wheel on the front and 27.5" on the rear provide even more trail fun. While the larger front wheel provides more grip, better rollover behavior and smoothness, the smaller rear wheel gives more space, more acceleration and above all more agility in tight corners. The so-called mullet bikes are very much in vogue.
The demanding riders of high-end MTBs and touring e-bikes - with or without "E" support - are satisfied with nothing less than the most powerful hydraulic disc brakes in terms of braking performance and riding safety. They have 4 pistons per caliper instead of 2, and their larger brake pads can withstand much more heat, making them almost immune to fading (less friction due to heating).
This will decide success or failure of e-mobility. That's why STEVENS uses batteries with a huge 500 Watt-hour capacity in all its top-notch pedelecs for up to 215 km of range (according to the manufacturer, please refer to the Bosch range calculator for more exact results). This is possible even without a weight penalty: Compared to the old PowerPack 400, the new Bosch PowerPack 500 is just 100 grams heavier. This huge "fuel tank" is our premier recommendation for pedelec riders who don't shy away from the hilliest of itineraries.
The cover of the USB-C plug in is perfectly integrated into the bike frame. The high quality of the cover ensures a clean, tidy look on the one hand and easy handling on the other. Especially in the sensitive area of the plug in, it is important that it is optimally protected from dirt and other external influences.
Optimum seating level for best drivetrain efficiency. Push the button: saddle down for best clearance on technical descents. Push the button: saddle up … this could go on forever - and on some technical trails the dropper post remote will be actuated more often than the front derailleur shift lever. Experts for fun and safety alike agree: Very rarely has an innovation meant so many convincing advantages and so little disadvantages like a dropper post with infinitely adjustable seat height.
One key, any number of locks - the Abus "YourPlus™" program makes it possible to get keyed-alike locks with Plus lock cylinder. This is practical especially with e-bikes, as there are several locks on the bike: on the battery, as a frame lock and optionally an additional lock for connecting the bike to a fence or the like. Thanks to Abus YourPlus™ they can all be operated with a single key.
Who wants to be fast does not need to suffer – the STEVENS Arcalis' UD Carbon Aero Comfort Seatpost with built-in elastomers makes sure of that by filtering annoying road buzz. Its dedicated fibre orientation enables better flex without adding weight or loosing stability and its aero profile offers minimum wind resistance.
Aero optimized Brakes
In collaboration with the brake specialists at TRP our engineers hid the brakes on STEVENS time trial and triathlon bikes from head wind - at the front on the backside of the fork, at the rear behind the bottom bracket. This way, when going for your personal best, you are only slowed down when you do it on purpose.
When speed is the most important goal, sometimes a frame has to see the inside of a wind tunnel - and eventually come back to Hamburg with a few more "speedy" features. This means advantaged for the riders of our Super Trofeo in time trials and - with the Volt - also in triathlons.
These number are the names of different aluminium alloys a frame is made from. Alloying is necessary to increase aluminium's toughness and hardness that in its raw state would be to soft and weak. From both alloys stiff and long-lasting STEVENS frames can be made. 7005 uses zinc as the next most important ingredient, 6061 uses magnesium and silicon as main additives.
Anodized Frame (anodized finish)
In an electrically charged dipping bath high-quality aluminium frames are covered with a hard, smooth, even surface that looks especially classy in STEVENS Anodized Black. Therefore neither a paintjob nor powder coating is necessary - saving about 200 grams of frame weight.
Compact, Semi-Compact and Standard Chain Rings
Those who are not born pro racers or like to ride hills a lot are best served with a compact crank featuring a 50/34 teeth gear combination. The big chain ring offers enough speed potential even with a tailwind. Uphill your two-piston machine won't run out of fuel when hitting a 10% grade. A tip for lovers of Alpine passes: A 11 to 32T cassette, mounted standard on some STEVENS models will make conquering 1,000 vertical meters (3281 ft) with an easy cadence a piece of cake.
Semi Compact Drive
Shimano's new standard is the optimum compromise of speed and climbing abilities with a 52/36T chain ring combination. Pefect when a 11 to 32T cassette is mounted at the rear wheel (e.g. with the new STEVENS Arcalis Disc), then mid-range mountains or even Alpine passes are no problem anymore. Instead ambitioned cyclists turn their cranks easily and save energy for the final townline sprint with friends to make speeds up to 60kph (40mph) possible.
53 and 39 teeth. Classic pro rider set-up. Made for long, mostly flat stages that are ridden with high tempo. The right choice for the fittest athletes – no matter if road race or time trial.
Load-compliant bearing dimensioning
Full-ball bearings are installed in the E-Inception series E-Fullys. The double bearing on the drive side ensures better absorption of both the motor's torque and the rider's power. This improves the overall performance of the E-Fullys in a very decisive way.
If you travel by bike, you need storage space. That's exactly why STEVENS gravel bikes are equipped with numerous threaded eyelets on the frame and fork. These serve as a basis for attaching pack options. A third bottle cage is also possible.
Those who ride their E-MTB on alpine trails demand maximum control. Thanks to its 150° swivel angle and high-quality ball bearing, the Acros Block Lock headset with integrated cable routing ensures that the top tube is optimally protected from impacts in tight corners or in the event of a fall. The fact that this results in fewer crashes at all is another plus of the impact protection.
This bike adheres to the "Boost" standard with 148 mm axle spacing. And there are good reasons for that. Rear wheel stiffness increases by 20 % which is especially beneficial in large 29" wheels. And there is more space for voluminous studded tires to give you more control and fun an the trail.
What is right for the rear wheel is even more important at the front wheel - because steering precision matters. This is why STEVENS uses suspension forks and hubs with extra wide axle spacing for this bike. These 110mm of axle spacing are called "Boost" or "Plus" and stand for lots of added lateral stiffness plus space for extra wide studded tires.
When it says "Performance" on the outside, lots of power is inside: This power house delivers 250 Watts and 65 Nm. For your e-bike this means a sufficient support in any kind of situation – exactly what you have asked for. And the latest, 3rd generation of this drive system from Bosch (identified by its standard-size chainring) also shines with a barely perceptible noise as well as minimal resistance if you once again want to cross the 25kph threshold under your own power.
Smaller, lighter, more powerful - there is no way around the new Bosch G4 (for 4th generation) Performance Line CX for high-end e-bikes. It supports its riders with a maximum of 340 % of their own pedal force and brings 75 Newton meters of torque into play. The engine power is dosed particularly smoothly in the so-called "E-MTB" mode, when the respective optimum support level is automatically engaged, because the fine sensors read the rider's request from the soles of his or her feet.
As the name suggests, the Intuvia display from Bosch relies primarily on intuition. The shift recommendation not only protects the battery, but also increases the range. Thanks to the good readability in all light conditions, riders can always see the riding data. The Bosch display also shows when the next service appointment is due.
The innovative Kiox display is attached to the stem with a user friendly magnetic holder. It provides ambitious e-bike riders with all kinds of interesting information like self-generated power and heart rate (with optional Bluetooth heart rate chest belt).
Integration is the magic word: In STEVENS Pedelecs with the PT5 distinction the PowerTube battery is well protected inside the large down tube and provides a full 500 Watt hours for long and very long outings. Thanks to its concealed charging port it can be charged while remaining on the bike. And the large volume of the downtube additionally increases stiffness, safety and steering precision.
The largest e-bike battery to date from Bosch is the PowerTube 625. It pushes the pursuit for even longer range to a new level. With an energy content ("capacity") of 625 watt hours, it is good for almost any extended tours you can imagine. To help ensure it stays that way for a long time, we keep it well protected in the voluminous downtube of our top e-bike models.
The sophisticated construction of the "Forma" frame version culminates in this down tube with triple hollow chamber profile. Its inner values are convincing: space for the large PowerTube625 battery from Bosch, including perfect weather protection. And the necessary stiffness to help the e-bike achieve maximum riding stability and high steering precision with pleasantly low step-through.
Its powerful down tube fits the Bosch battery with the longest range. And the frame geometry has been further refined - for the eye, by adapting all tube dimensions to the crucial down tube. And for an even more harmonious riding experience, the tube lengths have been optimized and the cockpit with steeper stems has been adapted to a pleasantly upright sitting posture.
For speed pedelecs it's mandatory, here it's a welcome bonus: When actuating the brake lever, the brake light will flash and warn road users behind.
Brake Light and Illuminated License Plate
For speed pedelecs it's required by law - and it enhances visibility. This is why on the E-Triton 45 you'll find an illuminated license plate as well as a brake light that, like in a car, will flash when the brake lever is actuated. Better safe than sorry.
The whole set of handlebar, stem, grips, brake and shift levers and any accessory attached to the handlebar such as bell or trip computer are called the cockpit.
Darfon 720 Wh battery
For long-lasting adventures in the wilderness or on the road, the removable Darfon 720 Wh battery in combination with the Shimano EP8 drive provides the necessary endurance. 21700 cells and 5 Ah per cell ensure an enormously high energy density. The big plus: The Shimano-certified battery achieves a short charging time thanks to the intelligent 4A charger. Fully charged in just 4 hours.
The combination of Shimano Alfine Di2 gear hub and e-shift function of the Bosch electric motor massively reduce the rider's workload if needed. It will automatically change gears and decrease motor power while shifting. When shifting manually the display will suggest the right gear. And when stopping on a red light the drivetrain will automatically shift to a pre-selected gear.
Electronic shifting is already well established in road bikes as well as in mountain bikes next to classic mechanical systems. Impressively fast and reliable gear changes and minimum maintenance pay their dividends not only at the Tour de France, in cyclocross or on the Cross-Country World Cup circuit. That's why STEVENS road bike and MTB frames are "Di2"-ready, meaning they are prepared for an elegant integration of batteries and electric cables (instead of usual wire cables). Even for the classy Alfine gear hub Shimano offers an electronic version.
All STEVENS full suspension bikes and hardtails with rear thru axle benefit from the stiffness of Shimano's E-thru-standard. This includes a direct mount derailleur hanger with integrated thread for the thru axle. The derailleur is mounted further backwards than with conventional quick release systems - which simplifies wheel removal and also increases shifting precision.
Direct Mount Front Derailleur
A front derailleur cannot be fixed more directly and stiffer than one with an integrated Direct Mount. That's why STEVENS's engineers opted for this solution on all full-suspension bikes and high-quality hardtails. So their riders are rewarded with utmost shifting precision.
In order to better handle the applied loads, frame main tubes and fork legs are devided into two chambers by an inner reinforcement rib.
E-thru Rear Axle
This abbreviation stands for Shimano's thru-axle standard for rear stays that integrates a thread into the dropout. As a result, the 12mm thru axle provides outstanding rear triangle stiffness and utmost precision in brake disc alignement to prevent annoying brake rub.
True monocoque frame To make this frame, all carbon fibre mats are placed in ONE mould and then "baked" with the resin matrix to form a premium frame. Only with this one-piece design all the advantages of carbon as a frame material can be exploited: perfect design for the actual loads, optimum power flow from the head tube via the main frame and seat and chain stays to the rear wheel - and all this with minimum material requirements (= weight!). Many carbon frames on the market are instead assembled from several pieces.
Here two world market leaders collaborated to help pedelec riders have more fun. Via the eShift interface Bosch motor and Di-2 shifting work like magic. Instead of waiting for the command from the rider they automatically shift to the optimal gear smoothly and fast as lightning - always to keep the pre-selected preferred cadence. And when stopping on a red light the system will automatically shift to a pre-selected gear.
Finest technology, designed and built in Germany: The Fazua Evation 1.0 is a very special e-bike drive system as motor and battery – together weighing only 3.4kg – can be removed and replaced by a simple panel. This is how an e-bike can quickly transform into a light&sporty gravel racer that is really fun to ride, even with pure muscle power.
For the perfect e-crossover experience, the STEVENS engineers have combined e-fully features and touring equipment. Rock Shox suspension and Acros Block Lock headset meet FEQ luggage carrier with bag holder for the Ortlieb Quicklock 3.1 system and lighting system, stand, mudguards and bell. E-crossover for explorers.
We keep the cable routing on our bikes as versatile as possible so you can ride your bike like you want to. There are wide and therefore easy to reach cable ports in the frame to insert shift or brake sleeves, Di2 cables or even no sleeves at all - there are the appropriate cover plugs for all of this.
This parallelogram seat post provides noticeable spinal relief when riding on rough terrain, because it sensitively responds to smallest bumps in the road. It is adjusted to rider weight using different elastomer inserts.
Comfort times two: The Kind Shock 860i can not only be lowered by up to 75 mm with the handlebar remote control for easier mounting and dismounting - with its built-in suspension it also enhances riding comfort.
The STEVENS Gravel geometry is fully designed for bikers who love to travel and need a bike for every surface. The longer wheelbase ensures a smoother ride, the greater tire clearance more comfort. The shorter reach also means that the rider sits more upright. Optimal for longer adventures on two wheels.
The sportive GTF geometry of the STEVENS E-Inception series is fully designed for downhill-oriented performance. A long reach and a flat steering angle give the E-Fully more smoothness, which is positively noticeable in the downhill controllability of the E-MTB. A shorter head tube and a steeper seat angle provide more control on steep climbs. GTF stands for gas to flat, which means full speed with full control downhill.
What are the secrets for a perfect battery cover? STEVENS engineers have found the answer to this question. It must be covered in rubber. This not only ensures easy operation without screws for user-friendly opening and closing, but above all noise insulation and protection against falling rocks and dirt.
A Hardtail is a mountainbike with a suspension fork but rigid ("hard") rear triangle ("tail"). A full suspension mountain bike ("fully") also uses suspension in the rear triangle - the part of the bike behind seat tube and bottom bracket. Hits from uneven terrain are levelled by a damper (mostly called shock).
Main swingarm cover
For maximum performance and long-lasting riding pleasure, the main swingarm bearing must be able to move optimally. Dirt considerably impairs the work of this component, which is why a cover is indispensable, especially for bikes that are ridden off-road. The main swingarm bearings of our STEVENS bikes are thus maximally protected against wear and loss of performance. The cover fits perfectly into the design of the E-Fullys.
Designing products that fullfil STEVENS engineers' demand in high-quality has lead to an important conclusion: If an MTB's chassis is supposed to provide precise response, high rear triangle stiffness and and a long life span then it must be equipped with high-quality, multiple-sealed roller bearings of load-specific dimensions - said and done!
High-Modulus Carbon Fibers
Only the very best materials are used for the highest quality STEVENS carbon frames - so called high modulus carbon fibres. They offer a perfect combination of maximum toughness and targeted elasticity. This way they provide maximum lateral stiffness for best forward drive and a high amount of comfort. Result: incredibly light and enormously stiff frames.
What is indispensible among pros is also available on this bike: Hydraulic disc brakes offering perfect modulation with minimal use of hand force also - or especially - in the wet due to their always constant braking power. This is beneficial in traffic just as it is on a fast and furious descent from a pass in the Dolomites. Or on a cyclocross race track where it's all about staying fast as long as possible. By using the Flatmount standard we can position the callipers closer to the frame and more elegantly than before. This saves weight without sacrificing performance and it looks so much better.
There is no brake system more reliable than hydraulic disc brakes - that is why we strongly advice everyone, who is riding their bike (nearly) 12 months a year to choose one of our models with a disc brake. Brake power is easy to modulate and does not fade a bit in the wet. Also the brakes are almost maintenance-free. And your local STEVENS dealer will gladly explain to you what you need to take care of when removing and re-installing a wheel.
In collaboration with pannier rack specialists Tubus/Racktime STEVENS' engineers have developed a dropout that also serves as an elegant pannier rack mount. It not only looks fantastic, it also ensures that forces caused by luggage or large amounts of groceries are evenly transmitted inot the frame - resulting in a more stable and safer design.
Even when you can't see the strut that connects the pannier rack to the fender - it is there. The strut runs below the fender and provides - in connection with the rack mounted to the fender - more stability and lateral stiffness.
A practical stand at the rear of the STEVENS E-Inception bikes is not a must, but a welcome extra. That's why our engineers have installed an unobtrusive stand mount. On the FEQ models, a stand is standard equipment. On all other E-Inception models, it can be retrofitted without any problems and without sacrificing heel clearance on complex trails.
The Acros Block Lock headset is only available with integrated cable routing for the STEVENS E-Inception series. The cables are routed through the headset into the down tube, giving the e-bike a clean, uncluttered look with full 1.8" steer tube compatibility.
The IQ-X head light range from Busch+Müller has a very bright, large and evenly lit light beam. The smaller, more elegant XS version outputs 70 Lux. The middle version IQ-X outputs 100 Lux. And the strongest IQ-XMF outputs 120 Lux on full beam, 80 Lux on dipped beam.
Of course, the golden Kashima Coat looks extremely eye-catching. But being an eye-catcher is not its main task. Rather, due to its texture, the Kashima Coat on the Fox Float DPS Factory air suspension, the shock absorber and the seat post ensures minimal friction when the e-bike is properly loaded. In addition, there is optimal response behavior with maximum durability.
Our World Cup and World Champions asked for it: To not lose any decisive seconds in a race we provide their Super Prestige cross bikes with a clever chain guide. It can be adjusted to different chain ring sizes - there is also a single-chain ring version available (standard on the Super Prestige Force).
Who wants to be fast does not need to suffer – especially not when their STEVENS Carbon road bike is equipped with a Scorpo Carbon SL Comfort Seatpost which filters annoying road buzz. Its diameter of 27.2mm only and dedicated fibre orientation enable better flex without adding weight or loosing stability. By the way: the post can also be retrofitted.
The seat tube tapers from top to bottom. At the top it fits a slim seatpost that offers some flex and therefore increases comfort especially when riding over rough ground. At the bottom the large diameter nicley flows into the bottom bracket shell and downtube to provide great stiffness and drivetrain efficiency.
There are situations when no suspension neither front or rear is required. When you are hammering uphill out of the saddle, when you sprint for the finish line in a marathon … then you simply flick the lockout switch to block the compression stroke. And when you read the word "remote" on the spec list, this means you can conveniently use a button at the handlebar to lock your suspension.
Lowrider Eyelets (ATB)
A lowrider is a pannier rack to fix bags to the fork legs, resulting in a lower (hence the name) center of gravity than with a rack that straddles the front wheel. Threaded eyelets for the fixing bolts can be found on almost all rigid STEVENS forks.
Motorcover "Moto Cross" Style
The heart of every e-bike is the motor, and it needs to be optimally protected. The underride protection of the STEVENS e-bikes in "Moto Cross Style" not only ensures a sportive look, but above all the necessary protection of the motor and adequate cooling of the same. In addition, integrated channels allow accumulated water to drain away.
Mountain Bike Wheel Sizes - the STEVENS Philosophy
The bike has to fit the rider, not the other way round - following this philosophy we have been building bikes since 1991.
This is why we use different wheel sizes in our STEVENS mountain bikes depending on frame size and area of use. Basically we rely on 29" wheels. What are actually 28" wheels combined with large-volume tires make the 29" wheel size can clear obstacles more easily and offer better traction due to a larger contact patch than smaller-diameter tires. In 16in frames are matched to 27.5" wheels. Larger wheels don't fit the smaller frame's proportions well enough just as their riders' measurements and leverage of arms and legs - the front end would sit just too high. Smaller riders on a 29er would always sit a lot more upright than taller riders on an appropriately-sized frame. We transfer the idea of height-specific wheel size to our youth and children's mountain bike from 27.5” over 24” to 20”.
When bikes are as fast as our Urban models (Strada) and commuter roadbikes (Supreme), only thru axles and the latest Flatmount disc brakes come into question to give the rider 100 % control and confidence. In this new multi-function dropout, the integrated mounts for kickstand, mudguard and rack also provide an extra dose of everyday practicality.
On the E-Inception models with Shimano drivetrain and the large Darfon battery, a USB-C plug in on the top tube - exclusive to STEVENS - ensures that smartphone, action camera or lighting system are powered for as long as the trail adventure lasts. In addition, riders can switch the system on and off smartly and user-friendly on the top tube.
Like its bigger sibling he legendary P1.18, the 12-speed gear box from Pinion takes the place nowadays usually occupied by electric motors. And it gives you several reasons to keep using your muscle power to 100 %: Among them is a gear spread of 600 %. 12 gears that make sense and thanks to a housing made from magnesium, the box is 600 grams lighter than the top-of-the-line model.
Where there's normally a bottom bracket shell there is now a complete control center with a total of 18 tightly and evenly-stepped gears - always providing the perfect gear for any kind of situation. This little powerhouse – made in Germany – also guarantees perfect handling thanks to its optimum weight distribution.
This way to attach the brake caliper to the frame or fork has become the aknowledged standard. The brake caliper is supported by the threaded post it is mounted on (hence the name). The post is also an integral part of the frame and fork, respectively which makes the brake-frame-system a lot stiffer and more durable. Also found on STEVENS disc equipped road bikes.
Pressfit Bottom Bracket
A bottom bracket consisting of bearings that are pressed directly into the frame's bottom bracket shell, therefore fitting very tightly. This design allow the use of large diameter bottom bracket axles to increase stiffness and minimize friction. Maintenance-free for many years.
QR-12 Thru Axle f+r (Race)
It is especially important for disc brakes that ultra-lightweight road bikes are prepared to accommodate them in order to make the most of their advantages. So the forks and rear triangles of your disc road bikes are spec'd with extra-safe 12 mm thru-axles.
"15" stands for the diameter in millimeters, "QR" for quick release. Combined they are the most useful method to fix the front wheel to the (suspension) fork. With convincing advantages: high stiffness, precise positioning of the brake disc and super-easy handling. So STEVENS specs almost all its mountain bikes and even high-quality trekking bikes, cross bikes and pedelecs with a thru-axle. Additionally, especially with 29" MTBs axle spacing is increased from 100 to 110 mm which makes the design even stiffer.
Diffferent purposes in different terrain require different ride properties. This is why every fully rear triangle receives a specific setup from STEVENS' engineers to meet the respective bike's requirement for optimum performance. Firm for minimum power loss in the marathon with lots of comfort for long distance riding with a linear characteristic curve and mind-soothing reserves for hard hits.
Up To 28 mm Tire Clearance
Even pro riders in the Tour de France already know that wider tires sometimes roll faster. And aren't it not those small back-roads with their sometimes questionable surfaces that are the most fun to ride? Those who often ride on roads with less than perfect pavement can prepare their road bike with up to 28 mm wide tires - and benefit from better comfort.
Those who are riding on rougher surfaces now can mount up to 47 mm wide tires to benefit from more comfort and flat protection that derive from their larger volume, and that can be ridden with lower pressure. Frame and fork are already prepared accordingly.

A belt drive, as the name suggests, uses a drive belt instead of a chain to transfer power from the cranks to the rear wheel. Since the belt cannot be split like a chain the special STEVENS frame utilizes a splittable seat stay, but the advantages are convincing: lower weight, silent operation, significantly lower maintenance effort.
A handlebar that is bent so that its ends where the grips are attached are positioned higher and a little further back than its middle part where it connects the stem.
The electronic Rohloff E-14 sets a benchmark for e-bike shifting. Combined with the e-shift function of the Bosch motor it offers a unique, fast and faultless shifting performance: One push of a button - the motor will immediately reduce power and the Speedhub will change gears. Hold the button and the hub shifts all 14 gears in three-gear steps at a time. And when stopping on a red light it will automatically shift to a pre-selected gear.
But not only the electronics, also the mechanics delights the rider: There are Speedhubs out there having run more than 100.000km. And there are thousands of everyday and long-distance riders who never ever want to use any other way of shifting again. Maintenance? Maybe one oil change per year - that's it.
Hidden behind this beefy dropout is the reaction arm which can transfer forces from the hub to the left dropout. This refers to brake forces – namely those from the coaster brake, which supports the hydraulic disc brakes as best as possible. Our tip for e-bikers, for whom this type of brake actuation has long been a flesh-and-blood experience.

Fully electronic and fully automatic - that's how the new Nexus Di2 hub gears from Shimano work. The smart technology remembers the rider's shifting behavior and selects the appropriate gear depending on the data collected (speed and cadence). Of course, manual shifting is still possible.
The Nexus Inter-5E hub gear was developed by Shimano especially for e-bikes and is thus optimally matched to the drive and other pedelec components such as brakes and on-board computer. The big advantage: the gear hub can withstand motor torques of up to 85 Nm and is therefore suitable for powerful drives. Changing gear ratios at high power levels is therefore no problem.
Our top supplier Shimano made a great innovation here. One that works reliably on any terrain when changing gears at the front has to be fast and precise - be it in competitions or on technical trails. Thanks to its upright axes the front derailleur cage swings outward and forward at the same time, and due to its direct actuation from the downtube only needs minimum operating force.

Additional step in welding. The first, rippled weld, typical for aluminium, is covered with a second smoother weld. This not only improves looks but also lowers the risk of notches in this spot, which makes the frames more durable.
This view is only available when the rear wheel is removed - otherwise the sensor, which gives the e-bike drive system the decisive information about the current speed, is perfectly integrated and well protected in the rear left dropout. With this Supernova M99 Mini Pro-45, our fastest e-bikes are also ahead in terms of safety and visibility. The small LED headlight is a big one when it comes to luminosity, because in high beam mode it illuminates the road ahead with a full 250 lux.
Fork shaft (or steerer tube) and head tube are tapered, meaning their diameter increases from top to bottom resulting in a conical shape. The diameter needs to be bigger at the bottom since this is where higher stress is applied - especially when the bike has a higher total weight due to luggage or an e-drive and battery. Also tapered steerers feature a smoother force transfer (like forces caused by hard braking) to the downtube than forks with a continuous 1 1/8" diameter.
Meaning a frame tube has three or two different wall thicknesses along its length. Triple butted (TB) is the usual technology with STEVENS high-quality frames. Tubes with different wall thicknesses are optimally adjusted to certain ways of manufacturing or to withstand specific loads. Where the highest loads occur or where tubes are welded, walls are the thickest. Butted tubes allow frame weight to be lower by several hundred grams.
The highest-quality STEVENS frames equipped with gear hubs or 18-speed gear boxes from Pinion use adjustable drop-outs so chain or drive belt can always be set to correct tension. Adjustment via grub screw and Allen key enables very precise positioning. And two fastening screws on each side provide secure clamping. In models using derailleurs for shifting chain tension is taken care of by the derailleur.
