Luxembourg mountainbike title for Sören Nissen

At the Luxembourg National Cross Country Championships in Diekirch, STEVENS rider Sören Nissen secured his fourth national title for his adopted country of Luxembourg.

In 2021, Sören was unable to defend his title due to a fractured leg – all the greater was his motivation this year. The race was held on a 6.5-kilometre-long course in Bissen, with the demanding track had an altitude difference of 120 metres and was fast and dusty due to the hot weather.

Sören, a native Dane with a Luxembourg passport, competed against strong riders like the reigning Luxembourg Cyclocross Elite Champion Scott Thiltges and the defending U23 Cyclocross Champion Loïc Bettendorf. Right from the start, Sören set a very high pace to put the other riders under pressure. His tactics paid off, because by the end of the second of six laps, Sören had already gained a small lead. He then was able to maintain the lead over the rest of the distance and crossed the finish line at the end of lap six as the new national Mountainbike XCO Elite champion.

"I am super happy with my victory and how things worked out. Now I will be wearing this beautiful jersey in red, white and blue in all cross country events in the year to come", said Sören after winning his fourth Luxembourg championship title after 2018, 2019 and 2020.
