One week after the World Cup races in Albstadt several riders of STEVENS MTB Racing Team competed in the next international race: The UCI World Cup and the UCI Junior Series, respectively in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. In the juniors race Emma and Markus Eydt will be at the start and Antonia Daubermann, Benedikt Fritz and Alex Bregenzer will take part in the U23 World Cup Series race.
The best rider of STEVENS Factory Team though, Luisa Daubermann, who had finished her second international competition in Albstadt in a respectable second place did not start in Nove Mesto. “She already had exceeded qualification requirements for the World Championships by her second-place finishes in Heubach and Albstadt”, team manager Joachim Oechsner explains.
Luisa Daubermann and Emma Eydt made her debut in the Junior Series race in Albstadt. At the start the youngest of the Daubermann sisters was stuck in a 60 rider strong field and had to begin the race from a far back position. But with fresh legs she then blew by a large part of the field in the first climb. In the next lap she was already fighting for third place with the winner of the first Junior Series race, Mona Mitterwallner from Austria. In the final lap she even cranked it up a notch and crossing the finish line she could celebrate second place. Her team mate Emma Eydt delivered a superb performance by keeping her top-20 position throughout the race and eventually finishing 17th, proving her increasingly good form.
Her brother Markus Eydt, in a 135-strong field, war riding around position 30 until the middle of the race. Until the finish he was able to advance to 23rd place at only three minutes behind the top group. In the men’s U23 race Alex Bregenzer, Benni und Tobi Fritz were at the start, and being at the back of the field they all had a lot of overtaking to do. Alex, after crashing right after the start, overtook 30 competitors to eventually finish in rank 63, the best result of this group. Christian Pfäffle experienced almost the same in the men’s elite race, he passed by 30 riders to cross the finish line as 98th. Looking forward to the races in Nove Mesto we keep fingers crossed for STEVENS MTB Racing Team.
