One of the outstanding qualities of our STEVENS bikes is longevity – and it will be tested under extreme conditions in the next weeks.
Wolfgang Kulow is the name of our ‘tester’, he is an extreme athlete who knows no bounds from eastern Holstein. He has already completed several Iron Man Triathlon competitions. And from his perspective, they aren’t terribly exciting anymore.
He rode a bike on the bottom of the sea, he went trekking in the Sahara. STEVENS once filled a bike with concrete for him, so he could cross the Kiel Canal.
And now it’s Lake Baikal.
650 kilometres at temperatures as low as -40°C. And naturally not on lowly tarmac, but through absolutely rough terrain.
So Kulow will have to carry his STEVENS Speed Flight often. Luckily, it’s very lightweight, like all the Siberia gear of Wolfgang Kulow. Additional mobility partners of his project are, next to STEVENS, the companies Schwalbe, Rohloff, SON and BUSCH&Müller. A perfectly equipped bike, all in all.
Kulow starts south of Irkutsk on 22 February and cross the lake. There aren’t many so-called ‘last adventures’ left, humans have been to the poles, to the moon, have jumped from the stratosphere. But nobody has yet dared such a lake crossing. And STEVENS will not play a minor role in it.
By the way, Kulow will be competing against the TV endurance athlete Joey Kelly, who will go on foot and by sled.
We wish him a good trip!
