STEVENS Racing Team scores big at 2022 German Cyclocross Nationals

In wintry weather conditions the STEVENS Racing Team takes important national titles at the 2022 German Cyclocross Nationals in Luckenwalde near Berlin.

The STEVENS Racing Team can look back on an overwhelming racing weekend at the German Cyclocross Nationals in Luckenwalde near Berlin. The hurricane Barbara already caused slightly wintry conditions on arrival, which made the 2.8-kilometer course even more challenging over the weekend. With a difficult layout, lots of stair sections and sandy traps, the track would make for some exciting races in all classes while the teams could benefit from a really perfectly prepared event.

The Elite race on Sunday afternoon saw STEVENS Racing Team new addition, Marcel Meisen, taking a dominant victory, coming fresh from his win at last weekend’s New Years Cross race in Luxembourg. Marcel’s STEVENS teammate, Jannick Geisler endes the 60-minute race on the runner-up spot. It is the sixth Gold medal in a row for Marcel, who separated from the pack early in the race, establishing himself in the lead and managing it until the end. An awesome result for the STEVENS Racing Team was completed by Yannick Gruner, who made for the first STEVENS Elite class podium lock-out by coming in in third, snatching the Bronce medal just a second behind Geisler.

The Masters 3 category saw one of the pre-event favourites, Stefan Danowski, taking the win while Lars Erdmann took the winning honours and Gold medal in the Masters 3 race.

The U19 Juniors race had Benjamin Krüger taking the final podium spot from STEVENS Racing Team teammate, Fynn Termin in fourth while over in the Womens Elite race Stefanie Paul grabbed a third place finish and final medal ranking while Larissa Luttuschka narrowly missed out on the top 3, ending the race in fourth place.

Over in the U23 race there was some bad luck for the STEVENS team as Luca Bockelmann, Luca Harter and Louis Krauss all missed out on the prestigious medal rankings. This is particularly unfortunate for Luca Harter, who, sitting in third place, crashed in the final lap and with a broken shoe he could no longer fight for the medals rankings, ultimately ending the race in sixth place. As for the team results it was Luca Bockelmann who came in fourth place with Louis Krauss ending the 45-minutes race in seventh place.

A euphoric STEVENS Racing Team sporting director, Masters class World Champion, Jens Schwedler, highly praised the team’s results on Sunday evening. “This is gigantic! We achieved a first Elite class podium lock-out for STEVENS Bikes and it is really cool to be a part of this important achievement. Especially the top results of Jannick Geisler and Yannick Gruber make me proud. At the end of a difficult season and beating a top notch athlete like Florian Hamm, earns my respect. But it is not only about medal rankings. The results in the hardly-fought U23 category give high hopes for the future with especially Luca Harter suffering very bad luck. Following his last-lap crash he tried everything he could to make for the time lost but in the end he had to settle for an unfortunate sixth place overall.”

This ends a race weekend for the STEVENS Racing Team that with three national titles and a total of seven medals is one of the most successful in recent years.
