Mathieu van der Poel and Sanne Cant started the new season just like they ended the previous one – with a win. While at the race in Eeklo, Belgium categorized by the UCI as C2 the podium featured Michael Vanthourenhout in third and World Champion Wout van Aert in second, the expected duel between van der Poel and van Aert did not happen.

At the 2017 German Cross-Country Championships and in the Eliminator sprint starters of STEVENS Racing Team won three medals and scored good results on STEVENS Sonora SL. Franziska Koch is the new German U19 Mountain Bike Champion. Antonia Daubermann is vice champion of the U23 category. David Horvath only narrowly missed out on the win in Eliminator sprint finals and wins a silver medal, too.

As part of the City Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup in Waregem/Flanders the short track race took place one day before the main event. Within 35 minutes the riders not only had to race the course as fast as possible but also collect bonus points in intermediate sprints after 5, 15 and 25 minutes.
