Following a successful spring with a sixth place in the Juniors European Triathlon Championships Rani Škrabanja added another two highlights at the Dutch Triathlon Nationals. She became second in the sprint discipline and won the Juniors competition.
Rani Škrabanja from the Netherlands confirmed her good shape she already showed in spring when she finished sixth in the Juniors’ European Triathlon Championships (1.5km swim, 40km bike ride, 10km run). Late August she first became third in the Elite field and second in the U23 category. Just one week later the young triathlete entered the Dutch Juniors Championships. She was the first to come out of the water and to enter the cycling leg riding her STEVENS Xenon.
In the saddle she even showed tactical skills: ”I rode together with another athlete, who knew that she would not be able to beat me and therefore tried to slow down the pace to enable her team mate to catch up” the young Dutch remembers.
”I became aware of that very early, though, and made sure not to go all-out on the one hand but on the other to keep her team mate from getting too close. She eventually managed to catch up in the fourth lap and to enter the transition zone in first place. But I did not give up.”
Rani went for the pursuit, took the lead and eventually won the title: ”I am very happy about this, since it’s my first year in the Juniors’ category.”
Her next race will be the Juniors Worlds in Rotterdam. ”A home race for me,” says a happy Škrabanja who is hoping to achieve a good result. We wish her all the best.
