It only takes a few hundred meters of riding on STEVENS E-Whaka + ES to want more. More of STEVENS Bikes and more of E-mountain biking, editors of Velo Vert approached the E-fully topic
The bike had many perks, even in theory already – and especially when it comes to real riding. Particularly the combination of Shimano’s Steps E8000 motor and the electric Di2 group set were promising.
Even the electric motor on its own offered convincing technical solutions with its integration into the down tube. Editors liked the classic Di2 shift levers, especially in the interplay with motor operation. Handling was excellent with view of haptics as well as precision.
This way the typical mountain bike feeling was preserved even when shifting only, editors enthused. The display was compact, protected and well legible so that all information necessary was easily retrievable at all times.
Thought out and flawlessly assembled
E-Whaka + ES was all in all thought out, technically as well as optically, editors furthermore wrote. “They play with an aggressive look that is in line with the bike’s character. Furthermore the bike is flawlessly assembled“, testers describe their first impression. The aluminum frame was solidly constructed and disposed of details like intern cable routing.
The 140 mm suspension worked well and offered furthermore good stiffness at the rear end. “The bike is a precise ride, lively and swift in reaction. It is easy to handle, especially on downhill sections“, editors summarize their test ride. “The comparatively short top- and seat tubes provide for a compact riding position“, due to which long rides and moderate climbs were possible, but you’d surely still have the greatest fun when going downhill really fast.
“The bike is a purebred all-mountain: certainly versatile, but above all made for riders to feel comfortable on winding trails and downhill“, Velo Vert concludes.
The strong and thought out specs of this bike together with its geometry and philosophy behind the bike, made it virtually unstoppable in downhill sections. It moves like on rails without batting an eye.
Conclusion: An E-fully for all kinds of mountains, but particularly for riding downhill and technical trails.
